General Writing Workshops

Fall 2016 Workshops

The Purdue Writing Lab offers free workshops for all Purdue students, staff, and faculty interested in learning about and getting hands-on practice with different aspects of writing. Please sign up in adance with our online scheduler. All workshops are held Wednesdays from 1:30 to 2:30 pm in HEAV 220.

Sept. 7: Prepping for Job Fairs: Résumés and Cover Letters
This workshop is helpful for first time or experienced resume and cover letter writers. We’ll give you advice for shaping your applications for job fairs and other opportunities.

Sept. 28: Audience Awareness
How do you tailor a document for a particular audience or reader? We’ll guide you through activities to help addressing formal and informal audiences, global and American readers, and other situations where you’re not sure what to say and how to say it.

Oct. 12: How to Revise Your Rough Draft
You have your first draft completed. Now what? Bring your paper, and learn strategies for checking organization, clarity, and more.

Oct. 26: How to Proofread Your Own Paper
Everyone has a hard time spotting errors in their own papers. Bring your paper, and learn how to find and correct a variety of grammar and mechanical concerns.

Nov. 9: MLA/APA Style and Avoiding Plagiarism
Join us if you're not sure how to properly properly quote or paraphrase, or if you want more information on citing and referencing sources. Bringing your draft is a plus but not necessary.
