Study & Work Area
The Study & Work Area of the Writing Lab is probably the first thing newcomers will notice about the Lab. This is not just another computer lab, though there are nine computers and two printers for students' use. Instead, the Lab fosters an open forum of talent, where people can come in to work on any kind of project and receive tips from different tutors.
There are so many uses for the Study & Work Area.
Private tutorials can be scheduled wherein a computer may be used to direct the student to a handout on the Online Writing Lab (OWL). Tutorials and studying can occur at any of the tables that are stocked with grammar guides and other helpful reference books. These books (ESL, Business Writing, Grammar, and Writing Lab references to name a few) can also be found in bookcases along the walls. In all of the rooms, you will find couches that have grown more comfortable with age, welcoming the weary student or helping to bring a group meeting closer together. While relaxing on the couches, you might even be inspired by the walls full of quotes from past tutors.
Many items are available for your convenience.
Feel free to use the staplers, markers, pencils, and reference books. If a sudden craving hits while working on a paper, grab a handful of the complimentary animal crackers that are almost always available around the Lab. Some type of food is always around! Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate are also available, although we do ask for a 25-cent donation.
Above all, remember that the Writing Lab is here to serve YOU ! The Study & Work Area is an inviting and supportive place, waiting to be discovered by any student or instructor.
