Explore students’ own understanding and attitudes towards plagiarism.

Procedures

At the beginning of the first in-class lesson on plagiarism, have students independently complete the Plagiarism Attitude Scale.

If desired, have the students review their answers in pairs to see where they agree and/or disagree.

If desired, lead students in a class discussion on questions or disagreements that arise from the completion of the attitude scale.

Option: Have students put the scale aside for now and return to the scale later in the semester. Have students review their answers to the scale. Would they change their answers to any of the items? If so, why?
