What's Happening In The Writing Lab

OWL Eye on ... Grammar Hotline

Does the period go inside or outside the quotation marks?
How do you cite a source with no author in MLA style?
What is a dangling modifier?

If you have a question and can't come to Writing Lab and can't find your answer on OWL, you may want to use our Grammar Hotline. Every day, people call us from all over the country to ask quick questions about grammar, writing, MLA and APA, or whatever they're working on.

Just call 765.494.3723 during business hours (Monday through Thursday, 9 am - 6 pm; Fridays 9 am - 1 pm) to talk to a Writing Lab tutor about your question.

What's New in the Writing Lab

Our In-Lab Workshop series continues. An In-Lab Workshop is a great way to brush up on some skills that you might need for a class, or to learn some new skills that you might need in the future.

Here are our In-Lab Workshops for the next two weeks:

Resumes (Traditional and Scannable) -Monday, April 2, 3:00 p.m.
Literary Analysis -Tuesday, April 3, 4:00 p.m.
APA Documentation - Thursday, April 5, 3:00 p.m.
Writing for an American Academic Audience - Monday, April 9, 4 p.m.

For more information about our In-Lab workshops, visit http://owl.english.purdue.edu/lab/labwrkshps.html. Teachers of any class at Purdue can also invite a travelling tutor to visit their classes and give workshops as well. For more information about that, please visit our page on in-class workshops at http://owl.english.purdue.edu/lab/workshops.html

What's Happening On OWL

OWL Eye On... Grammar, Spelling, and Punctuation
Sometimes the most frustrating things about writing are the picky details. And with so many different rules and exceptions, it's useful to have a place to go for help with your grammar, spelling, and punctuation problems. We have collected over 50 handouts dealing with such topics as commas, apostrophes, spelling rules, and active/passive verbs. All of these handouts give good explanations and lots of examples. Most of them even give you a chance to practice what you've learned by providing excercises (with answers).
