Welcome to the Purdue OWL News! This is an online newsletter that will keep you informed about happenings in the Purdue University Writing Lab and the Purdue University Online Writing Lab (OWL). While we recognize that most of you can't visit our lab in person, we'd still like to tell everyone about what's going on in our physical writing lab and our online writing lab, because we see them as a team effort for helping people with writing. (If you ever are in the West Lafayette, Indiana area, please stop by and visit us!) We welcome your suggestions and feedback at owlnews@owl.english.purdue.edu.

What's Happening In The Writing Lab

OWL Eye on ... English as a Second Language Resources

If you're a Purdue student in any class and English is not your first language, the Writing Lab has many resources available for you. Some of these resources include:

• Tutors who specialize in the writing concerns of English as a Second Language Students
• Computer workstations with ESL software that can help you practice your English skills and review for the TOEFL.
• Cassette tapes and audio materials with English self-study programs
• Handouts, books, and other resources for studying English.
  An English as a Second Language conversation group; email Ezekiel Vifansi at vifansi@purdue.edu if you're interested in signing up.

What's New in the Writing Lab

We continue to offer In-Lab Workshops for interested Purdue students, faculty, and staff. In-Lab workshops for the next two weeks are:

• Resumes for ESL (English as a Second Language) Students -Monday, February 19, 3:00 p.m.
• Film Analysis -Wednesday, February 21, 4:00 p.m.
• Literary Analysis -Monday, February 26, 4:00 p.m.

Teachers of any class at Purdue can also invite a travelling tutor to visit their classes and give workshops as well. In addition to the many resources that we provide in the writing lab, our OWL offers a wealth of ESL materials for both teachers and students. Here are some examples.

What's New on OWL

This week we've been working on checking and updating links on OWL. We're always looking for new writing-related links for our Internet resources category. If you know of any good sites, please mail them to link@owl.english.purdue.edu.

We have a new handout on objective statements for your resume in our business writing section. It's at http://owl.english.purdue.edu/handouts/pw/p_objective.html

We have also revised one of our handouts on sentence punctuation patterns to make it clearer and more visually appealing. It's at http://owl.english.purdue.edu/handouts/grammar/g_sentp.html
