Internet Resources for Teachers

This page contains Internet resources for English and writing teachers or for teachers who work with English and writing in their courses. We also have a lot of other general and scholarly resources in our online resources section. We also have an entire section on using our Writing Lab and our OWL in various courses.

Computers and Composition

• OWL's collction of computers and composition resources contains resources for teachers who use computers to teach writing.
• Teaching English with Technology is an electronic journal for teachers of English as a second language interested in using the Internet, computers, and technology in their teaching. It contains articles, lesson plans, website reviews, software reviews and other resources.

Distance Education

• OWL's collection of distance education resources contain information about distance education programs.
• Peterson's Distance Learning Guide catalogs programs at 75 universities.

English and Writing Sites

• Awesome Library's English Page contains the best of the best online English resources for teachers.
• Ask Oxford provides answers to questions on English grammar, spelling, and usage, a searchable dictionary
  of words, names or quotations, help with writing, crosswords and puzzles, and information for teachers.
• Dino Felluga's Introductory Guide to Theory is great for teaching and learning about critical theory.
• The Writer's Block is full of links to resources for writing, grammar, style guides, research, and reference.
• Our OWL also has some collections of writing-related sites and information about various genres of writing.

ESL Resources

• Better English offers free online exercises and quizzes as well as a mailing list for teachers and students.
• English Forum offers a multitude of resources for both students and teachers.
• OWL's ESL Resources for Teachers contain various categories of materials including quizzes, lesson plans, and links to interactive materials.

• English-to-go offers free lesson plans, assignments, and resources for English teachers.
• E-Wally and the Quest is a companion web site full of free activities for children, teachers and parents to help them learn about the Internet.
• The University of Picardy Jules Verne (Amiens) Resource Centre has exercises, glossaries, and useful links for people learning various types of English for specific purposes.
• King College's Library offers an Education Subject Guide with heaps of resources for teachers.
• The MERLOT project is an online community of faculty who are collaborating to increase the quantity of high quality web-based, interactive teaching and learning materials. You can become a member and contribute your own materials.
• OWL's collection of links for writing in grade school and high school.
• Ed-U-Tech, sponsored by the University of Minnesota, contains links to lesson plans, classroom materials, and other classroom resources for teachers of many subjects in all grades.
• Kathy Schrock's Guide for Educators offers links to lesson plans, classroom material, and teacher helpers in a wide variety of subject areas.
• Nada AbiSamra has a site with links and discussions of various approaches to teaching writing.
• Noodle Tools has online tools to help with searching the Internet, creating a bibliography in MLA format, helpful links, and a bulletin board for discussion.
• The Technical Literacy Project of the East Bay chapter of the Society for Technical Communication (STC) offers lesson plans, curricula, resources, and other materials for teaching technical communication to both middle and high school students.
• The Teacher Talk Forum sponsored by Indiana University offers links to lesson plans organized by topic areas.

Mailing Lists and Online Discussion Groups

• OWL's collection of computers and writing related mailing lists contains links to various computer and writing related mailing lists.

Online Journals for Teachers

• Kairos is an online journal for teachers of writing that contains articles, book reviews, and other resources.
• The Writing Instructor is an online version of a print journal for writing instructors at any level. It has articles, teaching resources, discussion forums, and is soliciting articles and resources for future issues.
