Business and Technical Writing

• Business Letter Writing offers clear and easy tips and examples for writing effective business letters.
• Business Plan Help offers concise advice and examples for writing business plans.
• The Editorial Eye Internet site offers samples of their advice for writers, editors, and other communications specialists. Be sure to check out their index! They have some good short essays and reviews.
• Letter Rep offers free sample letters in a variety of categories, including business letters, cover letters, application letters, and other kinds of writing.
• Gloria Pincu offers free weekly business writing tips via email on her website.
• The Institute of Electric and Electrical Engineers has a helpful page which includes a link to the IEEE Professional Communication Society.
• Those interested in technical writing might want to visit the Society for Technical Communication.
• Writing Guidelines for Engineering and Science Students features writing tutorials and workbooks for graduate and undergraduate students in science and engineering. It includes instructions for formatting such genres as memos, proposals, and other types of reports.
• Resume Resource provides a broad range of free resume writing resources, including resume articles and resume and cover letter examples, written by leading resume writing professionals.

Creative Writing and Non-Academic Writing

• CERES Environmental Education Topic -- Poetry contains poetry with environmental themes for teachers and others -- an excellent resource for any secondary or middle school teachers incorporating environmental issues with verse.
• The Free Online Writing Resource Links Database hosts thousands of writing resource links in a massive online database, including 40+ genres, funds for writers, job listings, education, news, submission calls,and a research library. They also publish Newswatch, FREEdom Inkwell Newsletters and Writers Site News.
• The Business of Writing is a free quarterly e-zine for writers that contains articles on various aspects of writing.
• Green Pyramid has links for freelance writers and also links to writing-related resources.
• Holly Lisle's Forward Motion Community offers free on-line writing classes, writing exercises and challenges, critique groups, and message boards. There are also articles on genre writing, as well as a free e-book on writing.
• Holly Lisle's Vision: A Resource for Writers is a free bi-monthly ezine written by and for authors, offering informative articles to writers at all career levels. Each issue has more than a dozen articles on everything from specific genre hints to editing techniques.
• College Press offers publication for younger writers as well as peer editing and assignments.
• Internet Journalism Resources offer lots of journalism-related resources and links.
• Journalism and Mass Communication Resources are available from the University of Iowa.
• The Journalistic Resources Page has links to journalism programs, links and resources, and journalism organizations.
• Mack's Den is a site dedicated to writers and the art of creative writing. The site offers writers of all experiences (in all mediums) a central resource for information.
• Patchword provides articles - both theoretical and practical - of interest to writers of all genres, as well as a list of literary competitions, a monthly quotes collection and a poetry anthology with old favourites and contemporary poems.
• Paul McCann's poetry site offers some information about poetic structures.
• Poets & Writers Online assists authors in their search for career-related information, outlets for their work, opportunities for professional advancement and community with other writers.
• Rejection Collection describes itself as "the writer's and artist's on-line source for misery, commiseration and inspiration."
• The Radii is "a website for writers who want to create, chat and be inspired."
• Stories.com is a free online writing community for all readers and writers. Each new member is provided with a free online portfolio, extensive email services and a great opportunity to mingle with other creative people.
• The SUNY Buffalo Electronic Poetry Center serves as a central gateway to resources in electronic poetry and poetics produced at the University at Buffalo as well as elsewhere on the Internet.
• Write Away is a web portal and community just for writers with forums, chat events, dozens of articles and writing resources.
• Writingclasses.com, the online division of Gotham Writers' Workshop, New York City's largest creative writing school, offers online classes in various types of creative writing for a fee.
• Writers' Exchange has articles, markets, press releases, resumes, interviews, hints, chat, BB, newsletter, and hundreds of well organized links for writers.
• Writers' Guild of America run by and for screenwriters.
• Writers in Touch is a community website for writers of all descriptions to post their work and give and receive feedback.
• Writer's Relief has a short story checklist that offers suggestions for making sure that your short story is publishable.
• Writing Site, a site for fiction writers, was created by two writers/teachers with strong publication and classroom experience, and offers exercises, guidance on publishing, and other basics for fiction writers.
